Graduation Requirements

            

The name of the degree awarded by the program is “Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering”.

 

The Department of Mining Engineering offers two options for its Bachelor's degree program, namely, regular and cooperative (coop) students. Both options require MINE student to successfully complete not less than 155 credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 2.75 out of 5 or better to qualify for attainment of the Mining Engineering degree. Regular option students are required to complete one summer training of 10 weeks in the Mining field, under the supervision of a faculty member. Cooperative program students undertake coop work for 26 weeks in lieu of the summer training and 6 credit units of departmental electives. Students whose GPA is lower than 2.75 but have otherwise fulfilled all other graduation requirements must retake enough of the technical courses in which their grade is lower than C to bring their GPA up to the 2.75 minimum. The typical study period of the MINE program is five years (10 semesters).
